Larry Maurer and three friends were hiking near Mt. Jefferson when they saw lights in the distance maneuvering in unusual and erratic ways. They signaled the lights with flashlights; one light broke from the rest and headed toward them, stopping about a mile away. When they stopped signaling, the light began moving slowly toward them again, then suddenly 'popped' from 1 mile away to within 10 feet of them. Larry and his friend Michael observed the outer glow of the craft, which was cone-shaped and opaque, replaced by an interior light that illuminated the craft's interior. Through a window they saw a box inside the craft. The craft then slowly ascended and flew out of view.
