The US anti-aircraft batteries did the same and fired on the objects. Object slowed from estimated 700 mph to 100 mph, and 2 F-86s were scrambled to intercept. Object began to accelerate, but pilot got to within 500 yards for a short period of time. Pilot armed his guns and fired in an attempt to down the object.
